Week 26
Applying all of the changes to the coursework and ancillaries
as well as the evaluation question. My coursework for this year came to an end
and I looked over all of my posts and made sure that everything was in position
and in order and presentable.
Week 25
I began to create my evaluation questions throughout this
week keeping in mind that I had to be creative so I used different online
applications. We received well-constructed feedback from our teacher which I
was able to use and apply to my evaluation questions to make them more appealing
and fully understand the question and answer it to the best of my ability.
Week 24
This week I finished up on my final draft and received feedback
which I later applied to the draft and had a complete draft for my digipak with
minor adjustments being implemented to my website.
Week 23
This week I was finishing up on my ancillaries whilst
getting feedback on my newest digipak draft which I had to start from scratch.
I also began to incorporate my target audience their status their age and all
of these aspects which would guide me into creating the most ideal ancillaries that
would appeal to the target audience.
Week 22
Carrying on with my work from last week after creating
another draft for my ancillaries I asked for further feedback and applied. It
to my ancillaries during this time I was reminded that both my ancillaries had
to create a link between the two. This meant that I had to recreate my digipak with
a whole new colour scheme.
Week 21
Unfortunately during this week my laptop was stolen and I
lost quite a few of my work which were saved internally on the laptop which
resulted in having to do a lot of my work. After receiving constructive
feedback from my target audience I began to apply this to my ancillary tasks.
Week 20
The
justification for the choices of the typography were done and the second draft
of my digipak and first draft of my poster for my album was completed too.
Week 19
The ancillary
research summary was being done and this helped gather the researches we made.
Once the rough drafts were completed for the digipak I got feedback and further
improved it to make it better. My target audience were helpful as they gave me
feedback for my first digital drafts for my digipak.
Week 18
This week was
structured around the rough cut feedback and my group ideas. At the beginning
the first transition cut was made. This transition cut was given to the target
audience for feedback. The brand was completed this week and after this a post
was uploaded explaining our reasons for why we chose the flowers sand twitch
effect. Rough drafts of my ancillary products were produced. After the first
one a few changes were made which leaded to the second version.
Week 17
This
week I began to start my secondary research into the ancillary tasks. I
illustrated the functions of all three ancillaries and allowed myself to have a
better understanding on how I could create this. After looking at Digipaks,
Posters and Websites, I began to create a remake of an existing digipak as well
as deconstructing it so that I know the conventions of digipaks and how I can
apply it to my own digipak. With this information I was able to choose which ancillaries
I wanted to create for our work, I chose a website and a digipak. We invited a
number of individuals to come and see the test screening for the rough cut and
see how we could improve on from that point.
Week
16
This
week we began to film the footage that we planned on. We had a shot list and
production schedule which made filming on the day very efficient as we would
finish all of the shots needed at one location all together. Within our group
we went through the clips and went through a shot scrutiny to see which shots
were usable and which ones would need to be re-filmed or changed.
Week
15
This
week we studied our target audience into a further depth so that we could
understand what they really wanted and what they want to see and what makes a successful
product in the audiences view. As a group we all discussed possible locations
that we could use and how accessible they were to use and how it will affect
our music video.
Week
14
This
week I researched into how branding and synergy is used within the pop genre
and how this will help me understand the conventions I need to apply to my
ancillary tasks. We began casting our cast for the music video and had test
shoots so that we can later review them as a group and get back to whoever was successful.
Week
13
This
week as a group we researched the purpose of a music video which allowed us to
have a better understanding of why they are made and how it will apply to our
production. This allowed us to decide on the type of video best suited for
genre and video as well as our target audience.
Week
12
This
week I analyzed the different ancillaries so that I could have a better
understanding of how I should create my ancillaries and which ancillaries I
should create. I created a mood board help me have an understanding as well as
so that I give myself a view of what I wanted the video to look like and what
type of shots I wanted to incorporate.
Week
11
This
week as a group we did a summary of analysis and research summary. This was a
vital task as it would help us with our music video and all of the concepts we
had. With this research we had a better understanding of conventions and could
apply this knowledge to our music video so that it follows the conventions of a
pop music video.
Week
10
This
week I looked into mainstream and independent music videos and labels to see
what the differences were and how it would affect the artist and star persona
we would create. We deconstructed the original song and the music video and
began to construct ideas and visions we all had that would subvert from the
original.
Week
9
This
week we chose and pitched our music video ideas and broke down our visions as
to what we imaged our music videos to represent and show. We created slides and
a presentation to show how we would like to present the music video. For
example I chose Eminem’s phenomenal soundtrack as I wanted to have a boxing
theme as well as create something with a meaning regarding bullying and use
fast paced editing. Towards the end of the week we all agreed on a song which
was “Running” by Benjamin Arrow & Beyonce.
Week
8
This
week we decided on using the pop genre. I carried out my research by looking
specifically into pop music videos to see what conventional and different micro
elements that they use is. I looked into what makes a video successful and how
that can be applied to our music video and how certain micro elements can apply
to certain audiences.
Week
7
This
week I analyzed ex-students work music videos as well as existing music videos
and deconstructed them in addition I researched into a director and what types
of music video they created. I analyzed the micro elements which they used
within narrative and concept music videos as well as performance music videos
to have a better understanding of what makes a good music video and what
doesn’t.
Week
6
This
week we all researched different theorists such as Laura Mulvey, Andrew Goodwin
and Michael Shore. Researching theorists will allow me to have a better
understanding of conventions and how I can apply these theorists’ theories to
my music video so that I am able to create a good music video.
Week
5
Within
this week as a group we all individually looked into artists and ways in which
we would be able to create a star persona using different aspects such as
color, make up, costume etc. This will help guide as when creating our own star
persona.
Week
4
This
week as a group we all branched out our ideas and went home to produce our
ideas and create them in terms of creating a brand name and a logo that would
represent our record label. As a task we were asked to look up a few existing
record labels and take some ideas off what successful record labels had. Within
the same week we all pitched our ideas out and finally had a mutual agreement
to go on with Sneha’s choice of repertory records.
Week 3
x
x
Using
Adobe Premier Pro I was able to finish editing both the remake and the
narrative versions of Jealous. Once both videos were complete I could see the
drastic differences in both and what aspects applied to narrative. This task
allowed me to brush up on my editing skills and move onto focusing on my camera
work.
Week
2
During
this week everyone amongst the class began to individually edit their own clips
together to form the final remake. Although editing wasn’t hard in terms of
applying effects and organizing the clips in time, lip syncing the song to the
actor (Sneha)’s lips was very difficult. We were set up into groups whom we’d
be working with and as a group we began to film for our narrative version of
the song Jealous by Labyrinth. As a group we had to create a storyboard and
deconstruct the lyrics so that we would have a better and clearer understanding
of what the lyrics were trying to narrate so that when we create our own
narrative video it would make sense.
Week
1
In
the first week we began to create the preliminary tasks which was to recreate
the music video Jealous by Labrinth. This task allowed me to learn new skills
which would help me through this course. I learnt how music videos were made
and how they were produced by looking at behind the scene videos of other music
videos so I would get a feel of how we could remake this music video. This was
part of my research and planning as I was the cameraman when we filmed this
remake. This helped me learn how to take different shots and angles of the
subject and how the camera movements should work as well as getting a feel of
how lip syncing worked. I also created a remake of a poster just to brush up on
my Photoshop skills as I knew it would come in hand and I was able to look at
the conventions of posters in the music industry.
